The Russo Bros. Reportedly Will Also Direct Marvel's X-MEN Movie

It was previously rumored that Joe and Anthony Russo’s involvement with Marvel Studios will extend beyond Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars by shaping the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe including the highly-anticipated X-Men reboot.

Hollywood inside Jeff Sneider is now backing up those claims reporting that rumors continue to swirl about the Russo Brothers returning to direct the X-Men reboot.

It was previously reported that the Russo Brothers have already signed a deal to “oversee additional projects” after their work on Secret Wars wraps. It seems like the X-Men movie might actually be in the cards for them

Their track record with ensemble Marvle movies (Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Endgame) makes them ideal candidates to help shepherd mutants into Marvel’s larger universe.

The original X-Men characters from Fox are going to play a big role in Avegners: Doomsday with the return of Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, James Marsden as Cyclopse, an McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the X-Men and other mutant characters will be be established in the MCU. Will these original character be mainstay in the MCU moving forward, or will they be replaced with younger variants at some point?

The X-Men’s arrival has been teased with Feige himself saying:

“I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”

What do you think Marvel’s plans are for the X-Men?

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released in May 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive in May 2027.
