Three Actresses Revealed To Be in The Running For SUPERGIRL in James Gunn's DCU
A new report has surfaced revealing three actresses who are in the running for the role of Supergirl in James Gunn’s DCU. Those actresses include Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), Emilia Jones (Loke & Key), and Meg Donnelly (Disney Channel’s Zombies).
Alcock plays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon. Jones also starred in Apple’s Oscar Best Picture winner CODA. Then there’s Donnelly, who is also the voice of Supergirl in the DC animated movies Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.
The news comes from Deadline, who says, “There is a chance the studio could make a straight offer to a star, but all things are pointing toward screen tests for actresses, which will go down within the next month or so.”
It’s also explained that Supergirl will likely make her DCU debut in Superman: Legacy, or maybe even another DC movie before she gets her own solo film.
It was previously reported that Outer Banks and Glass Onion star Madelyn Cline was either in talks to play Kara Zor-El, or she is an actress that Gunn and Warner Bros. are considering for the part. she wasn’t mentioned in this report, though.
Gunn previously said of the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow project, “We see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
Superman: Legacy currently stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer.
It was also recently announced that Sara Sampaio, the Portuguese Victoria’s Secret model, has been cast as Eve Teschmacher, the assistant and sometimes mistress to the scheming villain Lex Luthor.
Superman: Legacy will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
