Sam Raimi Talks SPIDER-MAN 4 and What He'd Have to Figure Out If He Directed It

A lot of Marvel fans would love to see Sam Raimi return to direct Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 4, especially after Maguire returned to reprise his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

At one point, Raimi was developing a fourth film but Sony Pictures opted to scrap it and start over. There have been rumors that Raimi might be developing something, but nothing has been confirmed.

During a recent interview with TheWrap, Raimi talked about a potential fourth Spider-Man film and the things he would need to figure out if he did direct it. There are some narrative roadblocks he would need to address.

Raimi explained: "I think if we were to make a fourth Spider-Man film, we’d probably have to figure out the journey that Tobey Maguire’s character would be going on and what obstacles he had to overcome to achieve that growth personally.”

He added: "And I hope that the villains would be chosen based on a representation of that obstacle."

Raimi went on to admit that he hadn’t thought about what that obstacle would be for Maguire’s Peter Parker because he would "have to talk with Tobey and the writers and really figure out what his personal growth for this episode would be."

As for if Raimi will ever direct another Spider-Man movie with Maguire, never say never. As we’ve seen, these days, anything is possible.

Raimi is also rumored to be up for directing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 and the next two Avengers movies for Marvel Studios. All Raimi has said regarding those rumors is that he hopes Marvel asks him to direct movie movies.

When previously talking about the rumors, Raimi said: “ I’m not actually working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with current Spider-Man [movies], and the track there, and I don’t know that they’re going to go back to me, and say, ‘Well, folks, we can also tell that story!'”

He went on to say: “I’m not sure, but I love all the new Spider-Man movies. I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was really, super powerful seeing Tobey [Maguire] again in it.”

I have no idea if Raimi will ever get to direct another Spider-Man movie, but I do hope that we get to see him direct another Marvel movie again one day.
