Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch Rumored for Major Twist in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY
Marvel fans are still trying to figure out how the next era of the MCU will come together, and one character many people are hoping to see return is Wanda Maximoff.
Now a new rumor is stirring up excitement as Scarlet Witch actress Elizabeth Olsen could have a surprising role in Avengers: Doomsday when the film hits theaters later this year.
Marvel has already started teasing fans with several preview trailers. The first revealed the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. Another spotlighted Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, while a third teased the arrival of several X-Men characters. The last teaser shifted attention to Letitia Wright’s Shuri as Black Panther along with Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing.
One major question fans keep wondering is whether Wanda Maximoff will be part of the story.
Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but rumors about Olsen returning have been floating around for months. Now a new report from scooper The Beyond Reporter claims that Wanda will indeed appear in Avengers: Doomsday, though her role may take an unexpected turn.
According to the rumor, Wanda will end up under a spell cast by Doctor Doom, who is being played by Robert Downey Jr.
If that turns out to be true, there’s a bit of amusing MCU symmetry involved. Wanda previously used her mind-manipulating powers on Tony Stark, also played by Downey Jr., in Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015.
In that film, the spell didn’t last long but it gave Wanda and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Pietro Maximoff enough time to escape after she also briefly manipulated the rest of the Avengers. The moment even triggered Bruce Banner’s Hulk to rampage through Johannesburg.
How Doctor Doom’s spell would affect Wanda in Avengers: Doomsday is anyone’s guess at this point. Story details for the movie are still tightly guarded, and for now this information remains a rumor rather than a confirmed plot point.
Still, the possibility of Scarlet Witch getting pulled into Doom’s schemes is a pretty intriguing idea. Wanda is easily one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, and seeing that power manipulated by a villain like Doom could create some wild consequences for the Avengers.
Marvel clearly has massive plans in motion. If Wanda does return, fans might finally learn where the Scarlet Witch fits into the MCU’s next big saga.
Marvel Studios currently has Avengers: Doomsday deep in post-production, with Joe Russo and Anthony Russo back in the director’s chairs.
The highly anticipated Avengers chapter is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on December 18, 2026, with its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, arriving on December 17, 2027.
