Lucasfilm's Rey Skywalker STAR WARS Movie May Not Be Delayed After All

Earlier this week it was reported that Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker movie, titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order was having issues and that screenwriter Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) still hasn’t had a chance to write the script, which would delay the film.

That news came from the reputable Star Wars news site Making Star Wars. Well, now io9 is reporting that those rumors are not true. They say Lucasfilm told them the “report is inaccurate and Knight continues to write and be a part of the process. In fact, the company is waiting on his latest draft as you read this.”

There was also a rumor that we didn’t report on saying that Lucasfilm was having creative differences with Knight. Regardless of what’s going on, one thing we know for sure from both sources is that Lucasfilm has yet to have a script for the film, and when that script does eventually come in, that script will need to be greenlit.

Remember, Damon Lindelof and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy were initially hired to write a script for the film, which they did, but Lucasfilm didn’t like the direction that they were taking the story, and the studios ended up firing them from the project. So, even when Knight finishes his script, it’s not guaranteed that it’s going to be what Lucasfilm is looking for. But, hopefully, it is because it would be refreshing to see Lucasfilm actually get a new film project into production.

I also like Knight’s work, so I’ve been curious to see what he would bring to the Star Wars franchise. Last week it was reported that Jon Favreau was developing The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, and that is going to be the next Star Wars film released on the big screen.

When previously talking about the status of the movie last year she confirmed at the time that she has yet to read a script: "I know the storyline for one film. That's not to say that that's all it is, but that's what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think. I mean, again, I don't know, post strikes and everything, how quickly everything will start up again. But yes, so far, I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited."

The movie is being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who previously directed episodes of 2022’s Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if this Star Wars movie gets made, or if it will fall apart like all of the other ones. Lucasfilm really needs to get its shit together in terms of getting these movies made.
