SHANG-CHI Director Destin Daniel Cretton in Talks To Direct SPIDER-MAN 4
Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to helm Spider-Man 4 for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. According to Deadline, he is the top choice for the job to take over the franchise from director Jon Watts.
It’s also reported that as of right now, franchise stars Tom Holland and Zendaya have not yet closed their deals to return, but “both A-listers have been in touch with execs and producers about the development of the film and new deals for both will likely be underway soon.”
Cretton was previously set to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but when that all started falling apart and the direction of things started to change, he left the project. He is currently working on Marvel’s Wonder Man series.
There have been a lot of reports and rumors about who might end up directing this movie and some of those included Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods), Sam Raimi (Spider-Man), Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious franchise), James Wan (Aquaman), John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (Dungeons & Dragons), Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah (Batgirl, Ms. Marvel), Jon Favreau (Iron Man), and Adam Wingard (Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire).
Cretton is a talented director and I think he’s a solid choice for Spider-Man. There are no official story details that have been shared, so it will be interesting to see what Marvel and Sony are looking to take the story after Spider-Man: Far From Home.
The filmmaker is also attached to direct the live-action Naruto movie. What do you all think about Cretton possibly directing Spider-Man 4?
