STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW Cast and Directors Announced; We Also Have a New Photo!
Some new details have emerged from Lucasfilm’s upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The full cast has been announced and a new image was shared at Star Wars Celebration.
It’s officially been confirmed that Jude Law will be joined in the series by newcomers Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, and Robert Timothy Smith. They will take on the lead roles in the coming of age space adventure series. Here’s image of the characters:
Lucasfilm has also confirmed the directors of the series, which include series creator Jon Watts, along with David Lowery, Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts), and The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) along with Bryce Dallas Howard and Lee Isaac Chung, who both worked on the current season of The Mandalorian.
The series has been described as ”a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s.” The story will follow four young kids from a tiny little planet, and they end up getting lost in the Star Wars galaxy and embark on a journey to find their way back home.
The film was pitched to Lucasfilm as “Goonies in Star Wars," and it’s been explained that while the series stars four kids, “it's not a kid’s show." The adventure that they find themselves on is said to be an intense and dark journey.
The story takes place “during the post–Return of the Jedi reconstruction that follows the fall of the Empire, the same as The Mandalorian.” It’s been reported that Law’s character is “a teacher and the show is like a field trip into and out of the known Star Wars Universe.” The project is also set in the same universe as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. You can read more details on the series here.
The first footage from the series was also shared at the event, and it featured shots of the characters on speeders, in school, on spaceships and a tease of a familiar villain from The Mandalorian. The clip ended with a first look at Law as a Jedi.
Gizmodo shared a description of the footage that “opens with kids living on an unknown forested world. They go to school, living their lives riding speeder bikes, but longing for adventure and they find it when they go exploring in the woods one night. Their parents return home to a vision of Star Wars suburbia unlike anything we’ve seen in the franchise before… and find that their kids have gone missing.
“Those kids, our main group—two young girls (one wearing a Star Trek: TNG -tyle head visor), a young boy, and a small alien that looks very much like he’s a young Ortolan, one of the blue pudgy alies popularized by Max Rebo in Return of the Jedi—appear to have found their way aboard a mercenary starship. There are shots of them encountering weird creatures, holograms of their parents back home begging for them to return, and the kids being menaced by pirates (including, it seems, the Nikto pirate formerly of Gorian Shard’s crew in The Mandalorian, further tying the series’ timeline into the post-Return of the Jedi era). The kids find themselves on the run from blaster fire in what looks like a pirate base and flying away on their new ship before the trailer concludes with them locked up in a prison cell carved out of a cave. A hooded figure approaches, floating the key to their freedom in front of the kids with a whimsical display of the force. He’s a Jedi!’ One of the kids exclaims as the figure lowers their hood to reveal that it is Jude Law’s mysterious character.”
Skeleton Crew wrapped production recently and is currently in the post-production process. Watts and Ford will executive produce Skeleton Crew along with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.
