The Next PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Movie Confirmed To Be a Reboot

Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that the next film to be released in the franchise will be a reboot. During an interview with CB, the producer was asked about all the rumors surrounding the franchise including Margot Robbie being in the mix, along with reports that Johnny Depp would be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow. In response to that, he said:

"It's hard to tell. You don't know, you really don't know. You don't know how they come together. You just don't know. Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can't tell you. But we're gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don't have to wait for certain actors."

One of the most recent reports regarding the franchise claims that there were two separate films in development and that The Bear star Ayo Edebiri is wanted by Disney to star in one of those Pirates movies. It was explained that Edebiri was being eyed to take on the role of a character named "Anne."

This project was originally developed with the new woman pirate from the Disneyland ride, Redd, in mind to lead the movie. At one point, Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan was said to be in line to play the character. But, plans have changed and the focus now is on "a younger cast of pirates looking for a hidden treasure."

The Edebiri project is being developed by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and previous Pirates films writer Ted Elliot. This film is much farther along than the other one and if one goes first, it will be this one.

As for the other Pirates film, Margot Robbie is reportedly still attached to that one to play the lead in a new female-fronted Pirates movie, which is being developed by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson. It was reported that this movie was not moving forward, but I guess that report was wrong.

Whatever is happening with this franchise, I do love a good pirate movie, so in rebooting the franchise, I hope that they do something fun and very different from the films that have come before.
