Christopher Nolan Gives DUNE 2 a Glowing Early Review, Comparing It to STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
We are less than a month away from the highly anticipated sequel, Dune: Part Two. Director Denis Villeneuve’s film features Timothée Chalamet returning as Paul Atreides, and Austin Butler joins the cast of the second part of the story as the character Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, nephew of Stellan Skarsgård's Baron Harkonnen. The returning cast also includes Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Stephen McKinley Henderson. New cast members include Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli.
Fans are looking forward to the second movie, and now they may have even more reason to build the hype. In a recent interview with Raiders of the Lost Podcast (via gamesradar), Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan said he got an early screening of the second film, and he gave it rave reviews, comparing it to Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. Nolan explained:
"For me, I don’t think it says too much to say that if Dune: Part One was Star Wars, this to me is very much The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite of the Star Wars films. I just think it’s an incredibly exciting expansion of all of the things you introduce in the first one."
Dune director Denis Villeneuve was present during this interview, and he was shocked by the comparison, calling it a "massive compliment" in return. This is a pretty awesome compliment! Does it make you more excited to see Dune 2?
The movie will drop in theaters on March 1st, 2024. This film will be followed up with one more movie titled Dune: Messiah.
