Lucasfilm's Rey Skywalker Movie STAR WARS: NEW JEDI ORDER Reportedly Still Doesn't Have a Script From Steven Knight
Last year, Lucasfilm announced that we would be getting a new Star Wars movie that would focus on Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker. The movie is titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order, and it was supposed to be the next Star Wars movie to get made and released.
Well, that’s no longer the case. Earlier this week it was reported that Jon Favreau was developing The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, and that is going to be the next Star Wars film released on the big screen.
So, what’s happening with Star Wars: New Jedi Order? Why is that being pushed out? According to Making Star Wars, screenwriter Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) still hasn’t had a chance to write the script. The last we heard, the script was supposed to have been finished in November, but that may not be the case.
The report says: "Today I was told that [Steven] Knight hasn’t written it [his draft], he hasn’t got to get to it. The scheduling and the stars did not align. Steven Knight was simply the guy they picked up and who they could get in that moment [following Damon Lindelof’s exit] and it never lined up. I’m not saying that he is off of it, I’m not saying that he’s going to write it or not going to write it - I don’t know."
She also said: “I'm very excited. The story is really cool. I'm waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don't have any other updates. It's not what I expected, but I'm very excited."
Damon Lindelof and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy were initially hired to write the script, but Lucasfilm obviously didn’t like the direction that they were taking the story. But, they would’ve had a script, because they actually wrote one!
Ridley was previously asked about the status of the movie last year and she confirmed at the time that she has yet to read a script: "I know the storyline for one film. That's not to say that that's all it is, but that's what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think. I mean, again, I don't know, post strikes and everything, how quickly everything will start up again. But yes, so far, I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited."
The movie is being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who previously directed episodes of 2022’s Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if this Star Wars movie gets made, or if it will fall apart like all of the other ones. Lucasfilm really needs to get its shit together in terms of getting these movies made.
