Matthew Lillard Will Reprise His Role as Stu Macher in SCREAM 7!
“Surprise, Sidney!” I’ve got some exciting news to share with all of you Scream fans! Matthew Lillard is set to reprise his role as Stu Macher in Scream 7!
This is awesome news and I was hoping to see Lillard return to the franchise in some way. We have no idea how the character will return, but it will be fun to see what the creative team has come up with for him!
I’ve always thought that Stu could’ve survived the first Scream movie. The last time we saw the charater he was he was trying to kill Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, but he ended up having a TV dropped on his head, and it was one of those old heavy TV’s from the 90s.
Lilard announced the news himself on his Instagram account in the best way, with a video of a handwritten message: “My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me,” which is a quote from 1996’s Scream.
The news comes shortly after we learned that Scott Foley would be returning to the franchise, reprising his role as Roman Bridger, who was the half-brother of Sidney Prescott and the Ghostface killer of Scream 3.
The movie also stars Neve Campbell, who is reprising her role as Sidney in the film and she will be joined by Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding.
The new cast members of the film include Joel McHale as Sidney’s husband, Isabel May, Mason Gooding, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor and Asa Germann.
It’s said that the next chapter of Scream will involve a "big time jump" following the events of the last movie. This is so that Sidney's children have grown to an appropriate slasher movie age.
It was also previously reported that Scream 7 "will have two main storylines, one about Sid and her friends from the neighborhood, and the second one about Sid's teen daughter Taylor (could be a codename) and her friends. Each of them will have to deal with Ghostface."
Sid and Gale will reportedly find themselves facing off with some kind of Ghostface cult.
Scream 7 will be directed by Kevin Williamson and released on February 27, 2026.
