Now you can watch it in that amazing invention called Quicktime! By Clicking right here! Venkman here and Holy crap! I didn't expect to see this anytime soon but here it is! The first teaser trailer for 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'! I guess it popped up with the movie 'Hancock', which I have not seen yet. I hated that they decided to remake this classic movie but after watching the preview it looks pretty good, and it left me with a little excitment. It looks like they are taking it in another direction from what the original was. It is definitely a modern day reimagining. I am a bit more open minded now. Keanu Reeves is very Keanu in this preview, but the special effects look great. Its not a bad teaser trailer so check it out! Thanks to filmweb.pl. if it isn't popping up below CLICK HERE. Hopefully that works.

Let the 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' Marketing Begin!

by Joey Paur +
To be honest with you fellow surfers, I was not too stoked to see this one.  I always get iffy when a film had to be re-cut too many times.  Regardless of my preconceived notions, I went and saw Hancock.  I must say, I liked it. I have to admit, I went into this film not knowing a thing about it.  I had seen the commercials, I saw the hype, but it never grabbed me.  The funny thing is, that it is one of the best add campaigns for a movie that I have ever seen.  They give you just a taste of what the plot is about and yet give nothing away.  I am very impressed.  Onto the review. The film is directed by Peter Berg.  Peter has directed some of my favorite movies.  For those of you unfamiliar with his work, he has directed the film Very Bad Things, Friday Night Lights, and The Kingdom.  If you haven't seen any of these, I would urge you to do so.  OK fellow surfers, I am promising you that I will not spoil anything for you in this review.  With that said, here we go.  Will Smith plays Hancock.  Hancock is a person with super powers who tries to help catch bad guys.  Problem is that he acts like he really doesn't care about people, and he drinks too much.  The community expects him to help in all situations, but they hate it when he does because he seems to destroy more things than the people he is trying to catch.  His character is never labeled as an alien, but he was changed by a freak accident.  He was mugged 80 years ago, and when the muggers hit him on the head, it is said that that incident was what triggered his powers.  As you can guess, he is super strong, he can fly, bullets can't hurt him, and he doesn't age.  Years of having his powers and trying to use them for good has jaded Hancock.  Until one day he saves someone who will change his life. Ray Embry (Jason Batemen), is a PR guy who is trying to save the world.  Yet all his attempts to reach the big time seem to fail him.  One day, after being turned down again for yet another job, Ray is driving home and his car gets stuck on the train tracks.  Hancock saves him in the nick of time, but in the process he destroys a few cars and the whole train.  Instantly the people who witnessed what happened start ripping into Hancock, telling him how bad he is at what he does.  Ray steps in and reminds the people of how much Hancock has done for the community.  I think you have figured out that Ray becomes Hancock's PR man.  Ray's wife (Charlize Theron), doesn't trust Hancock, but because her husband and son both love him, she just grins and bares it.  Ray gets Hancock on the road of the Super Hero and the people of Los Angeles start seeing him as a savior not a menace. All in all, the movie was fun.  For those of you who think that I just gave away the whole movie, think again my friends.  I just gave you the first 15 minutes.  There is a whole other movie that the adds did not give away.  That is why I think whoever did the add campaign was a genius, they gave very little away.  Which is refreshing considering that most trailers lately have been giving the whole movie away in the trailers. Anyway, I thought that all of the actors did wonderful.  Who most impressed me was Bateman.  He surprised me by playing a genuine role.  Lately, it seems that he has been playing mister sarcastic.  I almost forgot that he could play anything other then a comedy role.  Smith and Theron both brought their A games to this film.  I am in no way saying that this film is going to sweep the Oscar's or anything.  I feel that this movie was truly entertaining.  It had all of the elements that make a good movie.  Nothing ground breaking, just a great script coupled with great acting. So, if you haven't  caught on, I would say see this film.  In the end you will not feel like you wasted any time or money.  After you have seen it, come back and let me know what you thought of it.  Until next time surfers. McMurphy Out!

R.P. McMurphy Reviews: 'Hancock'

by Billy Fisher +
Charlie Bartlett was a nice little indy type film directed by Jon Poll and starred Anton Yelchin, Robert Downey Jr., Hope Davis, and Kat Dennings. I enjoyed my time watching this movie, and didn't feel like it was a waste of my time. It was definitely different. There are very few adult themed comedies that have a high school setting. My favorite by far is Wes Andersons ‘Rushmore'. Charlie Bartlett had a couple similarities the main one being each is a bout a kid in a private school that is thrust into a public school where they don't fit in at first and then they find their edge and roll with it becoming popular. Charlie is expelled from his most current private school for selling fake ID's. There is no other choice for him now but to go to public school and give it a try. Maybe this is what he needs to shape up/ He gets the crap beat out of him by the school bully his first day. Charlie is having a hard time fitting in and finding friends. Maybe because he shows up for school in his cute little private school uniform. I would think a normal person would know better. His mom gets Charlie a physiatrist to help him with his so called problems. The Physiatrist ends up giving him some Ritalin so he can focus better, the drugs end up making him one little crazy ball of energy. He realizes he doesn't need the drugs for himself, and teams up with the school bully to sell them to all the other kids in school during a dance so that they can get all hopped up on Ritalin. It is an instant success and the next day of school the whole school loves Charlie because he's got the drugs. He ends up holding psychiatric sessions in the boys bathroom where he talks to people about their problems and subscribes them drugs. He then gets involved with the Principals daughter and all his popularity dreams start to come true until the shit hits the fan. I know it sounds kind or ridiculous but it is a fun movie to watch. There are a few points in the movie that jump out and hit you in the face. Like "Where the hell did that come from?" Its not a bad thing, they are just interesting scenes that are plain strange. One of them is when Charlie goes to audition for a school play. It is funny, but I just wasn't expecting how it all goes down. Charlie Bartlett also has a few dark elements to it, mostly on how real people deal with their problems when under a lot of stress. Robert Downey Jr. Had a great blow out scene that would scare the crap out of any teenager. The casting in the movie was great. I loved Anton Yelchin as Charlie Bartlet. He pulled of some pretty strange things. Yelchin is a really good actor and if he plays his cards right he could be a very successful actor as he gets older. Robert Downey Jr. plays the Principal of the public school where Charlie ends up. We all know Robert is a fantastic actor. Hope Davis plays this role very well I can't stand people like the character she played. Kat Dennings played the Principals daughter. She was as good as she could be. Charlie Bartlett was a good movie. I would recommend to rent it. It's not a DVD I would go out and buy. If you like quirky little independent films like this then definitely get it. It's a funny, sad, depressing, annoying, and frustrating film, but the story is solid and the acting is really good. -Dr. Venkman Movie Trivia: This isn't the first time Anton Yelchin and Hope Davis have been in a movie together. The were also Mother and Son in Stephen Kings ‘Hearts in Atlantis' movie which also starred Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Dr. Venkman's DVD Review: Charlie Bartlett

Holy Hell this is awesome news! Not only is David Fincher Involved the movie but Eric Powells 'The Goon' will be done in CG! How great is that! This is great material for Fincher to work with and I have no doubt he will do wonders with this property! Here is What The Goon Website says!
THEGOON.COM is proud to announce that THE GOON has been optioned by acclaimed director and producer DAVID FINCHER and Academy-Award nominated BLUR STUDIOto develop as a CG animated feature film.
It dosen't say if Fincher will direct or not he could just be producing. I would love to see him direct a full CG film though, and 'The Good is perfect for it. If you don't know what 'The Goon' is about here is a little description:
The story is about the adventures of the Goon, a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for the feared mobster Labrazio. The Goon (and his sidekick Franky) often get tied up in other machinations, often in relation to the evil zombie gangs under the command of the Nameless Zombie Priest. The series has a distinctly paranormal slant, with the average story concerning ghosts, ghouls, skunk-apes with an unnatural hunger for pie, extra-dimensional aliens, and mad scientists.
This whole thing has just happened so we have a long time, but I can't wait to start seeing what this movie will turn into! Venkman Out!

Sorry Robin. You need to stay down! I always hoped that Warner bros wouldnt ruin this awesome Batman franchise by bringing in that boy wonder Robin kid. But if they were to do it we know Chistopher Nolan would do it right. I just personally can't see Robin in this Gotham world Nolan has created. Robin would get his ass kicked in this world. Anyway Christian Bale shares my thoughts on the matter he says:
"If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I'll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work."
So I guess that says it all, dosen't it? I guess that solves that problem. Robin wont be popping into these amazing Batman movies anytime soon. But I will say never say never. I am itching to see The Dark Knight'! Venkman Out! This story came from IMDB

Bale will Quit Batman if Robin enters stage left!

I was disapointed in the last Superman movie that was done by Bryan Singer to be it was just boring and there was really nothing interesting about it, nothing that would make it stand out. If I feel the urge to watch Superman it will be the ones staring Christopher Reeve. Now Mark Millar the man behind the totally awesome movie 'Wanted' has a big S up his sleeve. He recently gave an interview with dailyrecord where he talks about it a liitle bit and it's pretty encouraging. Doing a Superman Movie is Marks dream:
But Mark's big dream is making a Superman movie. He said: "Since I was a kid I've always wanted to reinvent Superman for the 21st century. "I've been planning this my entire life. I've got my director and producer set up, and it'll be 2011. This is how far ahead you have to think. "The Superman brand is toxic after that last movie lost Û200million, but in 2011 we're hoping to restart it. "Sadly I can't say who the director is, but we may make it official by Christmas. "But fingers crossed it could work out, that would be my lifetime's dream."
After the success of 'Wanted' it looks like everything came together for Millar on this thing. I guess Singer is out. I would really love to see what he plans on doing with this new Superman movie. I hope this all works out for him his first pitch was turned down last year because of his involvement with Marvel. This isn't Millars First encounter with the Superman property either he also wrote Superman: Red Son comic series. I am sure we all really want to see an amazing Superman film! One that will stick. Heres to living the dream! -Dr. Venkman

So the movie 'Mirrors' went Red band this week. I wasn't to impressed with the first trailer, and I gotta say I'm not to impressed with this red band trailer, sure its got some blood and some creepy little visuals, but it it just to much like every other asian horror film remake. Its kinda silly when you think about it they got evil coming out of cell phones, eyes, TV's, video tapes, fax machines, computers, cameras, water, vacume cleaners, and now mirrors. I love horror movies! I love watching them! but it takes a lot for me to really get scared. I will go see this to get some laughs, but I just can't take it seriously as a horror film. I am sure the average movie goer that hasn't really seen what a good horror movie is will think its scary as hell. As long as they enjoy themselves that all that counts. 'Mirrors' Star good ol Keiffer Sutherland and was directed by Alexandre Aja. So if you want to see Amy Smart rip her jaw off watch the trailer below!

'Mirrors' Red Band Trailer!

I really like the idea behind 'The Mutant Chronicles' when I first heard it was being made a long time ago. It really seems to be getting a slow start. There isn't much marketing behind it right now and so far it is only set to open up in Russia. I hope this movie gets a decent release here in the states. It seems like it is going to end up one of those films that all of a sudden we see as a DVD for sale. I truly hope this is not the fate of this movie. Thomas Jane is hosting a little teaser trailer for 'The Mutant Chronicles' on his website. I think it looks great! So you definitely need to check it out! Thomas Jane also gave Ain't it Cool some pretty cool news! They are going to screen the film at Comic-Con! Saturday night at 10 PM in a 2,000 seat hall! AINC is going to give out tickets for the screening so for details on that make sure to check in with them! I would love to go see this movie while at Comic-Con! Director Simon Hunter, Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman will be attending the screening as well.  This movie looks like a lot of hard work was put into it. I think it is going to be a really good movie and be a lot of fun. The designs and world they created look great! Make sure you check out the trailer. Click on the pic for a sneak peek at 'The Mutant Chronicles'!
