Director Shawn Levy Says DEADPOOL 3 Has a "F***Load More" Heart Than You Think

When you think of the Deadpool film franchise, you think of crude humor, action, and violence, but according to Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy, the upcoming film has “a fuckload more” heart than you might think. In a recent episodes of the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via CB), the director was clear in his opinion that Deadpool 3 will have as much heart and emotion as his other films (Free Guy, The Adam Project, Real Steel):

"I'm gonna say this: f**kload more than you think. I'm so wary... but one thing Ryan and I were very really united in was wanting to make Deadpool 3 very much consistent and continuous with the franchise DNA, but to see where we could evolve in this third movie."

Levy went on to explain that the "evolution" of the Deadpool movie franchise was a challenge easy to meet – once they settled on one key detail of the story:

"Once we knew it was a Wolverine/Deadpool movie, my god! What a gift to any storyteller. Because not only do you have two icon actors playing their most iconic roles, but you have two characters whose dynamic is already famously fraught. And anytime you're dealing with characters who start from a place of deep dislike and conflict and difference from each other... the mouth [Deadpool], and the like surly laconic man of few words [Wolverine], what a great formula for storytelling. And ultimately the movie does have much more character, depth, and heart than I think anyone is expecting."

The confirmed cast includes Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Emma Corrin as the villain, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic as Vanessa and Colossus, Matthew Macfadyen in an unknown role, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Leslie Uggams as Blind Al. They are joined by Brianna Hildebrand and Shioli Kutsuna will also return to the franchise as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Negasonic Teenage Warhead’s girlfriend Yukio. It was previously confirmed that Jennifer Garner will return as Elektra in the movie.

Some of the other rumored casting includes Brian Cox as William Striker, Owen Wilson as Mobius, Lewis Tan as Shatterstar, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Taron Edgerton as a different Wolverine, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Dafne Keen as X-23, Rebecca Romijn as Raven, Julian McMahon as Doctor Doom, Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth, Daniel Radcliffe as Wolverine, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.

Deadpool 3 has been removed from its May 4, 2024 release date, and as of right now, no new date has been announced by Marvel Studios or 20th Century Studios. I’m sure we will hear more asap, as the film is one of the highest priorities of the studio upon returning from the ongoing strike.
